Studio Murmur is a Chicago based industrial design studio founded in 2009. Working with a variety of clients and independently, we conceive and develop inspired, diligently considered products and solutions that emphasize simplicity, minimize complexity, and celebrate everyday living and working.
Our clients range from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies and include manufacturers, retailers, entrepreneurs and architects.
Our success is measured by outcomes in consumer products, furniture, lighting, public design, transportation, and hospitality.
Studio Murmur is led by designer and founder, T.J. Thomas. After earning degrees in both industrial design and psychology, T.J. also trained under master German craftsmen, practicing fine furnituremaking. He worked as a designer in the studios of Eric Pfeiffer and Michael Graves and in 2009, founded Studio Murmur on Chicago's north side.
He has served as adjunct assistant professor at the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois – Chicago (UIC) and as lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed Objects.
