An augmented reality headset that would give modern fire fighters the edge in dangerous, high stakes situations.
The Story
Fire fighters go into dangerous, critical situations carrying a number of devices, power sources, and communication technologies to allow them to work effectively. However, these devices are all separate, having different sensors and notification systems, and in many instance require fire fighters to direct their attention away from the fire to use and monitor these devices. The Innovative Solutions Canada government program wanted to address this problem with an integrated device to improve product overall product experience.
We were tasked with creating a heads up display that would integrate with existing devices allowing fire fighters to monitor a variety of sensor readings and communicate with their team without looking away from their surroundings.
A number of concept ideas that could effectively solve the heads up hands free fire fighter display challenge. We put together a project roadmap to address the biggest challenges including product integration, heads up display, and critical environment testing. We also put together concept design sketches to help understand how the end product would be used.
