MELROK FLOW PROJECT “Managing Household Energy Consumption”
Flow Project is an environmentally friendly system that allows users to monitor and control the flow of electricity through their hour remotely from their laptop or desktop. The system works by placing wireless monitoring devices at electrical outlets into which appliances are then plugged. The draw of electricity to that specific appliance can then be monitored and controlled. The product pictured on the right is part of a far larger system. Pip Tompkin Inc developed a new product language for Melrok that spanned across five different products including extended power cables, light switches and a base station. The product to the right is the outlet monitoring device. One of the challenges with this product was its size and identification. The user needs to know which monitoring device is plugged into which appliance. Pip Tompkin Inc developed a number of customization labels that can be applied to help identify the device and provide it with a personality.
