Learning Horizons wanted a package design for an educational kit which would consist of materials such as flash cards, audio CD's, educational toys, and print materials; we went up to the board to solve this problem.
After product and packaging designs were created and approved, the project went into a prototyping phase to get hands-on with the design. Painted prototypes were also created to match the product color print scheme, and photo-realistic renderings were created for literature and trade show panels. Final 3D CAD models were then created in order to acquire off-shore quotes of the final engineered product.
Retailers received the final packaging design favorably, finding the tangible prototypes much more useful than simple literature packet handouts. This only serves to reinforce a key principle of product design that we at The Metcalfe Group understand all too well - a prototype in your hands can be worth 100+ renders on a screen.
