makeWorkshop is the studio where that architects Alexander Papadias and Anna-Christina Fractopoulou design, prototype and test their personal design products. It is not just a design shop but rather a direct selling point for the objects that evolve into commercial projects and make it to production. The first line of products to come out of this evolutional design process are the marble door pulls.
Marble is a material that has been in use for thousands of years, it is a favorite material for artists and architects alike. In the past decades however, it has been used by architects only as a cladding material . Yet marbles' quality lies in the gentleness of its curves, its cool reassuring feel, its inescapable yet glorious aging. With this series of marble door pulls we attempt to bring back the luscious feel of marble to simple everyday actions such as opening a door...while pleasing the eye as well!
While we try to remain faithful to the materials we use, we also want to avoid being trapped by the preconceived notions for their use. We try to introduce new techniques and combinations. We also have a number of other projects on the works…. we will keep you up to speed on every new release…
