Goddard was approached by Northstar to design and engineer their award winning marine multi-function display, which integrated GPS, radar, chart-plotting, and fish-finding. Designed for the offshore fisherman, this trusted navigation technology had requirements for use in direct sunlight as well as low light environments, covered in fresh or salt water.
Power requirements necessary for backlighting the large display imposed thermal design challenges associated with dissipating heat. Our team was able to produce a novel enclosure design that met stringent environmental design metrics without compromising form, fit, and fashion. The 6000i enclosure’s durability and water ingress protection was demonstrated through high-pressure water nozzle spray testing per IEC 60529.
