CRE8 was assigned by Best Buy to design two voice-activated smart speakers powered by Google Assistant, which allows users to simply trigger the device by saying “Hey Google” or hovering hand gestures over the top surface.
The one with a compact footprint is like your personal companion and can fit in any environment such as the office, kitchen counter, or bedside table. The one with a slightly bigger form factor can be used around the house or even outdoors with its built-in battery pack, ideal for your garden parties with long hours of music streaming. Supported by a subwoofer for great bass, it provides excellent sound quality.
After exploring all kinds of shapes, the purposefully designed flat front surface clearly shows time, alarm, and temperature. Hidden in the top surface is the UI-display, designed with an incline facing towards the user.
CRE8’s designers went through a wide selection to find the most suitable materials. It was very challenging to decide on the right opacity to make the LED shine through the surface. A physical mute button on the rear and clear voice feedback gives the user peace of mind with their privacy protected.
