To help deliver Kinect for Xbox 360â„¢ to the masses at a price-point within the grasp of the average consumer, the Xbox team looked for an engineering partner that could tackle numerous mechanical and engineering challenges, work closely with outside vendors, and preserve the design intent. For this, Xbox turned to their longstanding development partner Carbon.
Though Xbox was optimistic about projected sales, when Kinectâ„¢ was released, those high expectations were quickly surpassed. Within a few short months of its introduction, Kinect had sold over 10 million units, making it the fastest-selling consumer electronics device ever. Beating iPads and iPhones, Kinect earned itself a spot in the Guinness Book of Records.
