SkinPen

Client: Bellus Medical

SkinPen is a handheld microneedling device used by physician-directed practices to improve the appearance of acne facial scars. The minimally invasive mechanical process of microneedling uses an array of tiny needles to create thousands of “micro” channels in the skin. Each 30-minute treatment stimulates the natural healing and remodeling process while minimizing cellular damage. The result: effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

SkinPen achieves these results through several technological advances. Its variable depth settings and cordless design provide significant versatility. As a result, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and other medical professionals can adjust the treatment as appropriate for different areas of the face. These settings adapt to the individual needs of each patient, while accounting for the natural variations in skin thickness.

SkinPen also reduces the risk of cross contamination. An enhanced exhaust port prevents suction and confines potential contaminants to the single-use disposable needle cartridge. Additionally, the single-use disposable “BioSheath” prevents the contamination of the device body during treatment.

Bellus Aesthetics earned the first FDA clearance of a microneedling device with the SkinPen Precision System in 2018.
