With the Engine Family 175D our customer MAN Diesel & Turbo SE is expanding his product portfolio downwards and offers for the first time a modular solution for small workboats, farriers but also larger private yachts. With its clear and emotional design MAN sets new standards. By communicating the important brand values of MAN the engine family clearly stands out from the competitive environment.
For the first time in the history of MAN Diesel & Turbo which is located in Augsburg, industrial designers were involved in the development of a new engine type. The information on customer needs which was collected by MAN beforehand was engaged at its best in the development process. Thereby the new engine family that is characterized by visual clearness and structure of the individual modules, was created due to the close collaboration of the MAN Engineering and the HYVE Innovation Design team. The design of the engine parts is directly realizable in the production with no extra costs involved. The few cover parts primarily archive important safety relevant functions and give the engine a compact appearance due to the integrative design concept. Because of the strict avoidance of hazard areas like hot parts or high pressure pipes in the design concept of the unit, every operator can work safe and is able to recognize serviceable components due to color codes for maintenance work.
In April 2015 the design of the MAN Engine received the winner reddot award 2015. Furthermore it obtained the German Design Award Winner 2016.
